Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The number of corruption proceedings in North Rhine-Westphalia has more than doubled within two years.

This emerges from the long unpublished situation reports on corruption by the State Criminal Police Office in North Rhine-Westphalia for 2018 and 2019.

The late publication was due to an “office error”, said North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU).

While the number of corruption proceedings in 2016 was 416, it soared to 966 by 2018.

The increase is mainly due to two extensive complexes: On the one hand it was about orders for school photographers, the other time it was about appraisals for vehicle registrations.

In 2019, the number of corruption proceedings fell sharply by two thirds to 312. That was the lowest level in five years.
