Hanover (dpa / lni) - Consumer prices in Lower Saxony rose by 1.1 percent in February compared to the same month last year.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products were 2.5 percent more expensive, as the Lower Saxony State Statistics Office announced on Monday according to preliminary information.

The prices for spirits rose by 2.2 percent, while wine was 0.6 percent cheaper.

The prices for landline and mobile phones fell significantly, at 7.8 percent.

The introduction of the CO2 tax at the beginning of the year continued to make itself felt at the petrol stations.

Compared to February 2020, the prices for gasoline rose by 2.2 percent and for diesel by 2.1 percent.
