Homberg / Ohm (dpa / lhe) - After the clearing for the further construction of Autobahn 49 in Central Hesse, the construction company will take over the areas on (today) Monday.

The chairman of the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Hesse, Jörg Nitsch, stated that this was «no reason to be happy.

Behind the implementation of planning dinosaurs like the A 49 is a system that perpetuates the construction of new roads and slows down the mobility transition. "

The fight for the Dannenröder forest is also a "fight for a better transport policy, the focus of which is climate protection," said Nitsch.

At the same time, he called for a revision of the federal traffic route plan, which provides for 850 kilometers of additional motorways in Germany by 2030 alone.

For the further construction of the A49 trees had fallen in the Dannenröder Forest and in the Maulbacher Forest near Homberg / Ohm (Vogelsbergkreis) and in the Herrenwald near Stadtallendorf (Marburg-Biedenkopf district).

Environmental and climate protection activists protested against this, erecting tree houses and barricades, especially in the Dannenröder forest, which were gradually cleared by the police last autumn.

Proponents hope that the project will result in less traffic in villages in the region and better road connections.

The felling period ended at the weekend, which runs from October 1st to February 28th due to the breeding and setting time of animals.

That is why the project company Deges aimed from the beginning to complete the clearing and rework by this date.

The A 49 Autobahngesellschaft mbH & Co. KG was founded for the construction and operation of the project, in which a subsidiary of the Austrian construction company Strabag and Meridiam Investments SAS each hold 50 percent.

It is a project in public-private partnership with a duration of 30 years since September 1, 2020.
