Essen (dpa / lnw) - To defuse a five hundredweight bomb from the Second World War, Autobahn 52 near Rüttenscheid was temporarily closed on Monday afternoon.
The city announced.
Almost 1,300 people had previously been brought to safety - including the residents of two senior citizens' facilities.
The dud in the Rüttenscheid district should be rendered harmless in the course of Monday, as a city spokeswoman said.
The bomb was discovered on Friday during construction work.
According to the city, around 300 helpers were involved in the larger mission to evacuate the area.
