Braunschweig / Magdeburg (dpa) - After a chase with the police on the A2 from Braunschweig to Magdeburg, the 38-year-old driver is in custody.

The Magdeburg public prosecutor had applied for the arrest warrant for dangerous interference in road traffic, and the district court followed suit, a police spokeswoman said on Monday afternoon in Magdeburg.

Five people were injured in the chase on Sunday afternoon.

According to the information, the man had simply accelerated at a traffic control in Braunschweig.

He is said to have driven eastwards with his 26-year-old co-driver at sometimes more than 240 kilometers per hour.

In the Magdeburg area he then left the autobahn.

After he rammed three patrol cars with his car, he was finally stopped and arrested.

The man, his passenger and three police officers were slightly injured.

The 38-year-old offered considerable resistance when he was arrested, the police said.

A rapid drug test was positive.

In addition, the man did not have a driver's license.

Property damage of around 10,000 euros occurred to the three police cars.
