Regarding the memorial service for the Great East Japan Earthquake, which was canceled due to the effects of the new coronavirus last year, the government has decided to hold a memorial service in Tokyo on the 11th of this month, which is the 10th anniversary of the earthquake.

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the government has held a memorial service on March 11 every year, but last year it was canceled due to the influence of the new coronavirus and a flower offering ceremony was held at the Prime Minister's Office.

Regarding the memorial service for this year, the government has carefully considered how it should be while observing the infection status of the new coronavirus.

As a result, on the afternoon of the 11th of this month, 10 years after the earthquake, Prime Minister Suga decided to hold a memorial service at the National Theater in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, and on the 2nd. It will be decided by the Cabinet.

On the other hand, in order to prevent the spread of the infection, we are adjusting to significantly reduce the number of attendees.
