Rural doctors should actually be healthy "goalkeepers." I think they should take on all the tasks at the grassroots level, especially the medical work.

(He) is not a simple public health registrar.

[Explanation] Village doctors are a large number of primary medical service teams with Chinese characteristics.

They have been rooted in the countryside for a long time, walking on the ridges of the fields, and providing basic medical insurance for hundreds of millions of farmers.

Yang Linhua, deputy to the National People's Congress and chief physician of the Department of Hematology of the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, has been following the development of village doctors for many years. She believes that village doctors are health "goalkeepers", not just "registrars."

Public health and anti-epidemic can not only be placed in tertiary A hospitals, and rural doctors are also very important.

Village doctors have a heavy burden. They also have public health, medical care, old-age care, and maternal and child health care. Therefore, village doctors are very important.

[Explanation] With the advent of an aging society and the advancement of rural urbanization, the problems of the elderly, the weak, the sick, the "empty nest elderly" and left-behind children in rural areas have become increasingly prominent.

The health protection of this group depends more on the village doctor nearest to them.

However, low income, lack of an old-age insurance mechanism, imperfect evaluation and reward mechanism, low subsidies for retirement, and talent gaps have severely restricted the development of the village medical team.

Yang Linhua called for corresponding treatment and protection to the group.

Their treatment is a suggestion that I really want to make, so that they must have a certain treatment and be able to serve the common people with peace of mind.

Because the reform of public hospitals, including the reform of county hospitals, has been piloted in our province, village doctors should be included in the overall reform of county integration.

So this is also very beneficial to their treatment and their overall improvement.

[Explanation] According to public data in 2019, there are about 1.2 million village doctors nationwide, and 60% to 70% of them are older than 60 years old.

Yang Linhua suggested that through continuing education, pairing with teachers, and the creation of an online learning platform, village doctors can improve their diagnosis and treatment and health management capabilities, and ultimately alleviate the problem of difficult and expensive medical treatment in rural areas.

Do we organize some special training courses to train people who have basic medical knowledge from various regions, such as technical secondary schools, colleges, and nursing schools, before letting them return to the countryside?

I think there must always be a process of reserving talents.

I hope that after several years of this kind of training, there will be a group of village doctors with ideals and qualities who can take on so many responsibilities of village doctors.
