Börrstadt (dpa / lrs) - In the accident of a tank truck loaded with fresh milk on the motorway near Börrstadt (Donnersbergkreis), the driver was seriously injured.

The 27-year-old was trapped in his driver's cab, freed by the fire brigade and taken to a hospital by rescue helicopter, as the Kaiserslautern police car station announced on Sunday.

The tank of the semitrailer was torn open when it hit the crash barrier, which is why the milk had spread over both lanes, it said.

According to the investigations, the driver from Neuwied drove the tanker truck on the BAB 63 in the direction of Kaiserslautern in the morning when the vehicle between the Göllheim and Winnweiler junctions turned right onto the grass verge for an initially unexplained cause.

The driver then steered to the left, causing the tanker truck to hit the center guardrail and tip over to the right.
