Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg Towers have not been able to stop the triumphant advance of the MHP giant Ludwigsburg in the basketball Bundesliga.

On Sunday, the team of trainer Pedro Calles in the edel-optics.de arena was defeated by the front runner despite a 55:51 lead after three quarters with 67:73 (37:37).

It was the eighth loss of the season for Hamburg, but they remain seventh in the table.

The guests, however, triumphed for the 16th time in a row and celebrated their 18th victory in the 19th game.

The hosts' best thrower was TJ Shorts, who scored a total of 19 points.

The Hanseatic League was able to defy the favorite for around 35 minutes.

Again and again the lead changed back and forth in the game that had been contested up until then.

Almost two minutes before the end of the third section, the Hanseatic League was even ahead with seven points.

In the final quarter, however, the Ludwigsburg then increasingly gained the upper hand.

After 60:59 in the meantime, the guests were able to gain ten points in succession thanks to three successful throws.

That decided the game.

The Towers will be playing their next match at ratiopharm Ulm on Wednesday (7:00 p.m.).
