Miami (dpa / lno) - Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who is currently celebrated as the world's best boxer, has impressively defended his WBA and WBC world championship titles in the super middleweight division.

The 30-year-old Mexican defeated the Turkish Avni Yildirim early on Saturday evening (local time) in Miami with a technical knockout.

Yildirim's supervisors gave up during the fourth round break after their boxer went down in the third round.

Alvarez has won 55 of his 58 professional fights and has boxed twice.

The only defeat he suffered in 2013 against superstar Floyd Mayweather Junior from the USA.

On May 8, Alvarez wants to contest a title union with the previously undefeated WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders from Great Britain in Las Vegas.

Yildirim's manager Ahmet Öner, who worked as a boxer and promoter in Germany for a long time, explained: «I wanted to spare Avni further blows.

You can lose against 'Canelo'.

Avni will continue to box, maybe even in Germany. "

Yildirim, who now has 22 wins and three defeats, is supposed to fight against Felix Sturm from the Hamburg Universum stable according to his manager's ideas.

"Sturm, whom I know well from Universe times, can prove himself there," said Öner.

He would like to play the duel in Germany this year.
