Berlin / Borken (dpa / lnw) - Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) took part in a dinner with several people the day before he himself received a positive Corona test result in October.

According to the calendar entry, Spahn was present at the meal from 8 p.m. to around 9:30 p.m., his Bundestag office announced on Saturday at the request of the German Press Agency.

The following morning Spahn had taken part in a meeting of the federal cabinet in Berlin before his ministry announced the infection to the minister.

The "Spiegel" had reported that Spahn had attended a dinner with about a dozen entrepreneurs in Leipzig on October 20.

In the morning, the minister pointed out on ZDF that the main points of contagion are when celebrating and socializing, privately or at events such as a party.

"The then valid rules of the Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance were complied with after confirmation from the host," said Spahn's office.

All participants in the dinner were reported to the responsible health department as contact persons after the positive test and were also informed at the same time by Spahn or the host.

As far as is known, all of them went into quarantine immediately afterwards and, according to the host, tested negative.

At the dinner, questions about the current political situation were discussed, according to Spahn's office.

After the event, donations were received from participants to support the work of the CDU district association Borken, of which Spahn is chairman.

The "Bild" newspaper (Saturday edition) reported that the host asked the participants in the run-up to the evening to make donations for Spahn's federal election campaign, which should be below the limit of 10,000 euros for the publication of donor names.

The Ministry of Health announced on October 21 that Spahn had tested positive for the virus in the afternoon.

Spahn immediately went into domestic isolation.

That morning he had attended the cabinet meeting at the Chancellery.

Since the cabinet meets in compliance with hygiene and distance rules, quarantine was not necessary, according to the government.

Leipzig had a comparatively low number of cases in October.

Nationwide, they rose again significantly over time.

As Spahn later announced, it was unclear where he was infected.
