Nantes (dpa / lno) - The Swedish handball player Niclas Ekberg will remain Champions League winner THW Kiel until at least 2022.

The 32-year-old right winger extended his contract, which originally expired in the summer, by one year, as the club announced on Saturday.

Ekberg has been playing for the North Germans since 2012 and has so far played 437 games for the zebras.

Kiel has become a second home for him and his family, Ekberg was quoted on the association's website.

"Because it is a dream to be able to play in a team like the one we now have together."

"Niclas simply belongs to THW Kiel," said trainer Filip Jicha.

"He is an absolute model professional, has hundreds of games behind him, is incredibly experienced and stable."

THW managing director Viktor Szilagyi described the Swedish national player as a world-class right winger and a figure of identification.
