Mali: elected officials from the Timbuktu region meet to discuss peace and security

More than a hundred municipal councilors and mayors, as well as notables from 112 villages in the Timbuktu region, completed a community meeting in Timbuktu on Saturday evening.
A meeting to contribute to peace and security in this part of Mali where insecurity still reigns in several places.
The local populations of the Imouchar tribe who organized the meeting proposed mechanisms to contribute to the establishment of peace.

The community of Imouchars constitutes a part of the population of northern Mali, but they are mainly settled in the region of Timbuktu.
And it is their elected officials and their notables from this area located in the north-west of the country who have decided to regroup more, in order to contribute to the restoration of peace and security locally.
Ibrahim Ag Nock, president of the community of Imouchars and allies of the Timbuktu region: “
Today, this grouping will make its contribution to the restoration of peace, by moving in a direction of social dialogue, social intermediation, here using the traditional legitimacy of the customary authorities over the entire geographical area of the Timbuktu region.

For their future actions in favor of peace, with around a hundred elected officials (municipal councilors and mayors), the initiators of the Timbuktu meeting also want to reach out to other elected officials and notable from other communities.

You can't expect everything from the state,
” they say.
Funding of micro-projects to give hope to unemployed youth and adult literacy training are also part of their priorities to ensure peace and security.
