Today, Saturday, Tehran renewed its condemnation of the US raid that targeted militias that Washington said were loyal to Iran on the Syrian-Iraqi borders, accusing the United States of launching a new phase in support of terrorist groups.

The Secretary of the Iranian National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, said that the recent US moves had targeted what he described as the resistance forces.

During his meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein in Tehran, Shamkhani stressed that the countries of the region should cooperate in order to reduce tension and settle the outstanding issues.

He added that Iran and the rest of the countries fighting terrorism will not allow terrorist groups to re-emerge in the region.

Later, Fuad Hussein - who is visiting Iran for the second time this month - met with his Iranian counterpart, Muhammad Javad Zarif, who said that the US attack was illegal and a violation of state sovereignty.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Hussein is visiting Iran, to discuss the regional situation, support paths to achieve balance, and avoid tension and escalation with Iranian officials.
