Scientists and researchers: Corona will remain among us, but its danger will recede

Graphic ... 5 possible scenarios for the coronavirus

A survey conducted by the scientific journal, Nature, showed that scientists expect that Corona will turn into an endemic virus, but it may pose a lesser risk, over time.

In January, the leading scientific journal asked about 100 immunologists, researchers in infectious diseases and virologists, who work on the Corona virus, about the possibility of eliminating the virus.

About 90% of respondents believe that the "Covid-19" virus will become an endemic epidemic, which means that it will continue to spread in regions of the world for years to come.

University of Minnesota epidemiologist Michael Osterholm says that failure to eliminate the virus does not mean continued deaths, severe illness, or social isolation, by the standards that we have seen so far.

The future will depend greatly on the type of immunity people acquire through infection or vaccination and how the virus develops.

Influenza and the other four human "corona" viruses, which cause colds, are also endemic, but a combination of annual vaccinations and acquired immunity means that the number of deaths due to seasonal diseases has become acceptable, without the need for closures, masks and social distancing.
