The list of 15 senators appointed by President Ali Bongo was published on Saturday February 27.

According to the latest revision of the Constitution, the Gabonese Senate must now have 67 members, i.e. 52 senators elected by indirect universal suffrage (by municipal and departmental councilors) and 15 others appointed by the Head of State.

According to an analyst close to the presidential palace, Ali Bongo respected the parity of men and women.

On his list of 15 senators, there are 8 men and 7 women.

The balance between young and old is also respected.

Many names almost unknown to the public are emerging.

Ali Bongo still rewarded two of his former collaborators at the presidential palace.

They are the former minister, Honorine Nzet Biteghe, one of the most famous defenders of women's rights in Gabon and Cyriaque Mvouranziami who was in her protocol during her first term.

Berthe Mbené Mayer, mayor of Lambaréné more than 15 years ago and who had disappeared from the political landscape, is returning to business for a chair in the Senate.

For each senator, Ali Bongo appointed a substitute.

From this Monday, the 15 appointed senators and the 52 other elected officials will meet in the hemicycle to elect the new president of the Senate and his deputies.

No worries for the ruling party that dominates both houses of Parliament.
