Offenbach (dpa / lhe) - Nationwide, the winter of 2020/21 was the tenth winter in a row that was too warm, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).

In Hesse, the average temperature of 1.9 degrees according to the provisional DWD balance from Friday was slightly above the national German average of 1.8 degrees and 0.3 degrees above the average for the comparison period for Hesse.

With 210 liters of precipitation per square meter, Hesse had an above-average amount of rain and snow - the comparative value is according to the information at 193 liters of precipitation per square meter.

Particularly noticeable was the so-called air mass limit, which on February 7th caused hours of freezing rain in the northern half of the country, which left a layer of ice several millimeters thick.

In the extreme north, snow fell consistently and so Wesertal-Lippoldsberg reported 40 centimeters of snow on February 8, which led to enormous restrictions.

The sun shone a good 150 hours in December, January and February and was thus above the target value 136 hours ago.

The Taunus, however, was one of the regions with little sunshine this winter, in which the sun sometimes shone for less than 125 hours.
