Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Lord Mayors' Conference of the Lower Saxony City Council calls for a new strategy in dealing with the corona pandemic.

In a letter to Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) on Friday, the city hall bosses presented their plan under the motto "Living with Corona - treat, vaccinate, test, open!"

in front.

17 Lord Mayors signed the letter.

The central means are vaccinations and tests.

The committee considers an incidence-based opening within the framework of a step-by-step plan to be wrong.

It calls for the reopening of all public and social life when risk groups are predominantly vaccinated and the health system is functional.

"The benchmark must be the utilization of the intensive capacities," says the letter.

The population must also be tested regularly and increasingly.

The opening of all public and social life is possible if people continue to pay attention to hygiene and distance and wear mouth and nose protection, it said.

"The Lord Mayors' Conference is in favor of maintaining restrictions in the personal and private sphere in favor of an opening of public life."

For the gastronomy and hotel industry, a reliable opening perspective is needed, but possibly also restrictions such as a nationwide curfew.

From the point of view of the mayor, the schools should be fully reopened at an early stage, at least with alternating lessons.
