Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - The state of Hesse wants to thread a land deal with the city for the planned construction of a new university library in Frankfurt.

As the building department of Hesse's largest city announced on Friday, two equivalent areas are to be swapped: The land will be given a plot of land in the northwest of the university campus, while Frankfurt will receive an area on which there are still houses from a former US settlement .

The city wants to build a new building for two schools there.

The city council still has to approve the deal.

"We have reached an agreement from which both sides benefit to a great extent," said construction department Jan Schneider (CDU).

According to Science Minister Angela Dorn (Greens), the country offered the exchange four years ago.
