Hanover (dpa / lni) - Minister of Education Grant Hendrik Tonne is determined to open more schools in Lower Saxony after the next federal-state consultations planned for Wednesday.

«My goal is still to get all students back into alternate classes as quickly as possible.

I remember our experiences with the elementary schools, which we left in the change model - and they are really good, "said the SPD politician of the" Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung ".

At the same time, the minister, who had already promised further school openings for next Monday, emphasized that he had by no means lost his courage.

“But I have always said that favorable incidence values are a prerequisite for bringing more classes back into schools.

And unfortunately we have to realize that the past two weeks have not been satisfactory, ”explained the father of four children.

The current stagnation in the corona numbers and uncertainties about the mutations would have induced him to observe the situation for another week.

Tonne expressed the hope that the Prime Minister and the Chancellor would achieve “common perspectives for daycare centers and schools”.

If this is not the case, Lower Saxony reserves the right to leave again.

"That is not automatic, but I am also not saying that there will definitely not be another special route in Lower Saxony."

At the same time, he demanded that the vaccination offer for primary school teachers and educators be extended to, for example, caretakers and secretaries.

"A differentiation would not be justified, just as I do not consider it plausible to vaccinate primary school teachers, but not other teachers," said Tonne.

He has high hopes for corona self-tests.

“With these tests, we will definitely take a decisive step further.

We will definitely make these self-tests possible for schoolchildren », emphasized Tonne, but at the same time warned against overly high expectations with regard to the speed of implementation.
