Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The start of the trial against Oppenheim's ex-mayor and SPD member of the Bundestag Marcus Held for allegations of infidelity and fraud has been postponed again.

The new date for the start of the main hearing is May 4th, the Mainz Regional Court announced on Friday.

The reason for the postponement is the motions of the two co-defendants, 81 and 83-year-olds responsible for a brokerage company.

According to the original planning, the process should have started this Tuesday.

In the Chamber's view, even if the otherwise adequate security measures were observed, there would be an “unacceptable risk” to expose the two defendants, who belong to the highest risk group, to a fully occupied courtroom.

The two co-defendants could not have been vaccinated against Corona due to the shortage of the vaccine, despite having already registered.

Further trial dates were set up to July 1st.

Held and the two co-defendants are accused of infidelity, fraud, bribery and corruption in connection with the sale of land in a building area of the city and in connection with donations accepted.

The court only partially admitted the prosecution's indictment.

Held resigned from all municipal offices in 2017, but emphasized that this was not an admission of guilt.

He still holds his mandate in the Bundestag.

The start of the process had already been postponed to March 2 in mid-November due to the corona pandemic.
