Washington announced that the US raid, which targeted Iraqi armed factions at dawn today, on the Syrian-Iraqi border, was based on intelligence information that the Kurds and Iraqis contributed to developing.

While the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades admitted to targeting them, Baghdad denied any cooperation with the Pentagon.

A spokesman for the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) John Kirby said that the intelligence information related to the structures used by those factions, adding that the Pentagon is reviewing the results of the raid, and that the picture will become clear after hours.

Kirby indicated, in an interview with CNN, that the raid targeted Shiite armed factions believed to be involved in the recent attacks that targeted Americans and their partners in Iraq.

He explained that the raid was designed to respond specifically to those attacks, and to protect the Americans, their partners and their interests in the region, stressing that no one wanted an escalation or deterioration of the security situation in the region, and that Washington acted in an appropriate manner.

In response to these statements, the Iraqi News Agency stated that the Iraqi army denied sharing information with the United States regarding these raids.

The Iraqi army said that its cooperation with the international coalition, led by the United States, is limited to fighting ISIS.

Condemn Congress

In the same context, the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Gregory Meeks, commented that the administration has not obtained a mandate from Congress to launch a military strike in Syria, and said that he is looking forward to receiving more specific information about it.

Mix added that he would review the text of the War Powers Act, while assessing the appropriate role of Congress in addressing both attacks against US forces by what he called Iran-backed militias, and the response of the United States.

Democratic Senator from Virginia and a member of the Armed Services Committee, Tim Kane, criticized President Joe Biden's administration.

Because they launched the raid without informing Congress.

Democratic Representative Ro Khanna also criticized the raid, saying in a tweet that the administration, whether Republican or Democratic, must obtain congressional authorization before launching a military strike.

Recognition of the Hezbollah Brigades

In the first official statement, Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq admitted to targeting its sites from American aircraft, which it said had caused the death of one of its members at the Iraqi-Syrian border.

The brigades added in a statement that the dead man belonged to the 46th Brigade, which operates within the Popular Mobilization Forces in the Al-Jazeera and Badia operations sector, "specifically in the Iraqi Al-Qaim region."

In its statement, the brigades accused the US forces of continuing to commit what they described as crimes "as long as the killing wages come from Saudi Arabia and the UAE."

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights counted at least 22 people dead in the airstrike that destroyed, according to the observatory, 3 trucks carrying ammunition at 1 am (23:00 GMT), the moment they entered from an illegal crossing from Iraq to the south of the city of Albu Kamal in the countryside of Deir Ezzor East.

Israel is aware

In the context, the Axios website quoted Israeli officials that the Biden administration had informed Israel in advance of the air strikes.

The site revealed that the US notification to Israel took place Thursday morning in talks between officials at the Pentagon and the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

And the same source reported that Israeli officials see this development as a positive sign about the new administration's stance towards Iran.

Axios said that in recent weeks, Israeli officials have felt alarmed by "increasing provocations from Iran and its proxies in both Yemen and Iraq," adding that they shared these concerns with the Biden administration.

The Syrian and Russian position

Commenting on the raid, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Syrian Arab Republic condemns "in the strongest terms the cowardly US aggression" against areas in Deir Ezzor.

The statement added that the attack "constitutes a negative indication of the policies of the new US administration, which is supposed to adhere to international legitimacy, not to the law of the jungle, which was followed by the previous US administration."

Russia also condemned the strikes and called for "unconditional respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria."

The Russian Information Agency quoted a member of the Russian parliament, Vladimir Jabbarov, as saying that "what happened is very dangerous and could lead to an escalation in the entire region."
