The 8M Commission continues with its plans to celebrate Women's Day in the streets and has called four demonstrations for "less than 500 people" in the main squares in the center of Madrid.

The organizers have assured that they will establish the necessary measures so that the number of attendees does not exceed that threshold, which is the number that the Government Delegation places as a limit to prohibit demonstrations due to the pandemic.

"We will try not to overdo it," they say.

"We are not calling mass demonstrations. We are responsible and we are committed to expressing ourselves, demonstrating and saying what we want to say in a thousand ways. No one is going to shut us up," said Mercedes Ruiz in connection with the controversy this year about the convenience or not to call protests in the streets after the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, said "openly" that this year "there is no place."

That call from Darias will not stop the protests but the pandemic has led the organizers to organize a different and much more "decentralized" 8-M, as they have explained in a press conference.

On the one hand, holding a single demonstration like in previous years has been ruled out and it has been decided to convene four concentrations for "less than 500 people."

They will take place in squares in the center of the capital, at 7:00 p.m. and will have their own themes: Puerta del Sol (care and public services), Cibeles (sexist violence), Ambassadors (anti-racism and dissidence) and Atocha (planetary emergency)

Likewise, throughout these days and on March 8, there will also be different protest actions called in "the towns and neighborhoods" to facilitate that "all people can go out into the street safely" and that assistance is downloaded to the central acts of the afternoon.

The 8M Commission, which is one of the main feminist platforms that have promoted strikes and large concentrations in recent years, has defended that they are still "working" with the Government Delegation in Madrid to finalize the "protocols" and the " guides "to guarantee that the sanitary recommendations are followed but they have ensured that they will put in place the necessary mechanisms so that" the number of 500 people is not exceeded ".

However, the spokespersons of the 8M Commission have acknowledged that these protocols are not yet completely closed and that they continue to "see" in communication with the authorities what measures may be needed.

For example, before a possible attendance of many more people than allowed.

In the absence of these details, they have made progress that they will establish a "security cordon" in each of the four demonstrations and that it will be specially "reinforced" to carry that "control" of the capacity, as well as to carry out disinfection tasks.

The approach is that "less than 500 people" are concentrated in each square and they have promised that there will be "a lot of responsibility to respect the number" that has been set.

"Success is not in the number of people," said Mercedes Ruiz, who has pointed out that the 8-M "is not an end", but the means to express their claims.

Regarding the possible assistance to any of these protests by the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, or some other representative of the Ministry, the 8M Commission says that they still do not know it but that if they appear as individual citizens they will be "welcome."

"We do not summon the officers," said Mercedes Ruiz, who added that they are not going to be measured by the number of political representatives they have.
