Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - From the point of view of Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, coalitions never work without conflict.

Coalitions are simply a connection between different parties, said the Green politician on Friday evening at a panel discussion on the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” on the state election in the House of Business in Stuttgart.

"It's not always a happy event," he said.

But it shouldn't be any different.

The parties must not merge or people will no longer be able to distinguish between them.

"Quarrel is essential."

The coalition of the Greens and CDU would have advanced the country.

Kretschmann has been Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg since 2011.

He is the first head of government of a German state appointed by the Greens.

In the election on March 14, Kretschmann will be challenged by CDU Education Minister Susanne Eisenmann.

The popular Green Prime Minister has been ruling with the Union as a junior partner for five years.

In the latest polls, the Greens lead the CDU.

The state elections in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate are the first mood test in the super election year 2021, at the end of which the Bundestag will also be re-elected.
