The health crisis is disrupting consumption habits… until we go to checkout.

According to a recent study by the Groupement des Cartes Bancaires, 48% of French people now use their means of payment differently.

The blue card seems to be preferred by consumers.

The bank card, and in particular contactless, was widely acclaimed last year by the French, according to a study by the Banking Group.

This practice, considered as a barrier gesture, has grown considerably thanks to the increase in the ceiling from 30 to 50 euros.

4.6 billion payments were made in contactless, unprecedented.

20% of credit card holders have used it for the first time this year.

Less transactions, more money

The study records another notable development: the decrease in the number of transactions concomitant with the increase in amounts.

"Customers visited the stores less, but each time they did so, they made larger baskets", explains Loÿs Moulin, director of development for the Groupement des Cartes Bancaires.

He describes an "unusual increase" of 7 euros on the average basket paid by credit card in April 2020 compared to 2019. "This is important. Over the year, we have an average increase of 1 euro then that for six years, this average amount has fallen by almost 1 euro. "
