What caused the fatal accident in Sävsjö is still unknown, but there are several factors that affect safety on the ice.

"Knowledge, equipment and company" is the mantra of the National Ice Safety Council.

- Especially now when the ice is stressed, knowledge becomes extra important, says Mikael Olausson.

He warns the public not to go out on the ice at all.

- The weather naturally affects.

Now we have double-digit temperatures and the snow that is now melting quickly seeks its way out into the watercourses, which means that there are high flows.

This combination is becoming devastating and now it is going very fast.

The ice quickly becomes very bad.

"Can change in an hour"

Most people who are injured on the ice are people who walk or fish, according to statistics.

Skaters go through the ice more often, but usually have equipment to cope with.

But having ice studs with you is not enough at present when there are to be high temperatures in large parts of the country, says Mikael Olausson.

- We get a tendency to spring phenomenon already now where the sun's UV rays affect the ice and it can change in just a few hours, to be quite stable to become sorbet.

The equipment you have with you may not help, the ice is so brittle and rotten.
