China News Service, Toronto, February 25 (Reporter Yu Ruidong) The International Civil Aviation Organization announced on the 25th that it has appointed Juan Carlos Salazar from Colombia as its new secretary-general.

  Salazar will officially take office on August 1 this year for a three-year term.

  Sarazza has served as Director of Civil Aviation of Colombia since January 2018, and has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Organization of Colombia and Senior Advisor of the UAE Civil Aviation Authority.

  The International Civil Aviation Organization stated that Salazar has extensive professional experience in the management of complex organizations at the national, regional and international levels.

He is also an expert in aviation regulations and standards, and has more than 26 years of international negotiation experience in aviation, management and public policy.

  The current Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization is Liu Fang from China.

She has held this position for two consecutive terms since 2015. She is the first Chinese secretary general and the first female secretary general in the history of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

  The International Civil Aviation Organization, headquartered in Montreal, Canada, is a United Nations specialized agency responsible for formulating technical standards and policies in the field of international civil aviation. It currently has 193 member states.

The Secretary-General of the ICAO is the head of the secretariat and the chief executive officer of the organization responsible for the general direction of the secretariat. He is responsible for leading professional international staff working in the field of international civil aviation, and is responsible to the ICAO Council.
