Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Since the start of vaccinations in old people's homes in North Rhine-Westphalia, the number of active corona infections among residents and employees has decreased rapidly.

According to the latest information from the State Ministry of Health, almost 750 residents and 430 employees of inpatient care facilities were recently infected with the coronavirus - a significant decrease that can be attributed to the growing number of people vaccinated in this group.

At the height of the wave at Christmas, well over 5000 residents were still considered corona patients.

Just a month later, the number had dropped below 4,000.

On February 9, fewer than 1,000 infected people were counted.

The development of staff is similarly clearly declining: in the past month alone, the number of actively infected employees in nursing homes fell by three quarters, as the information shows.

According to the state government, the vaccinations in the nursing homes in North Rhine-Westphalia are almost complete: According to the Robert Koch Institute, 180,000 residents received a first vaccination, and 130,000 had already received the second dose on Thursday.
