Oberstdorf (dpa) - Former ski jumping world champion Severin Freund lost the internal elimination before the first individual World Cup and will not be used on Saturday (4.30 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport).

This was announced by the German Ski Association (DSV) on Thursday evening after the training sessions on Oberstdorf's Schattenberg.

Instead, Constantin Schmid got fourth and last place on the grid in a three-way battle with Freund and Martin Hamann.

At the large hill individual, the team of national coach Stefan Horngacher has five starting positions in the coming week because Markus Eisenbichler became world champion two years ago.

The 32-year-old friend became the individual and mixed world champion in Falun in 2015.
