Erfurt (dpa / th) - Because of the corona pandemic, sales in the Thuringian hospitality industry fell by more than a third last year.

According to the figures presented on Thursday by the State Statistical Office, revenues from hotels, guest houses, inns, restaurants, bars and catering companies fell by a total of 35.3 percent in price-adjusted last year compared to 2019. The accommodation companies alone therefore had to decline sales of 40 in real terms . Can cope with 1 percent; in the catering trade, the decrease totaled 32.2 percent.

Because of the pandemic, the plants were closed for months, the closings are still ongoing.

The pandemic cost almost 15 percent of employees in the industry their jobs in 2020.

Part-time workers were particularly hard hit.

A decrease of 19.5 percent means that almost one in five part-time workers lost their job.

Permanent employees were less severely affected with a decline of 8.3 percent.

In 2020, around a third of all employees in the Thuringian accommodation industry worked part-time.
