Despite the ongoing lockdown, Artistic Director Christian Kuhnt assumes that the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF) can be held as planned in the summer.

As Kuhnt said at the online presentation of the program with around 160 concerts, he hopes for easing as the vaccinations progress.

Advance ticket sales for the concerts, which are mainly planned to be open air from July 3 to August 29, start with a small contingent and should be flexibly increased if the hygiene rules are relaxed.

In addition to the classical stars, important artists such as Esther Ofarim, Gregory Porter, Giora Feidmann, Wolfgang Ambros, Ulrich Tukur and Rainhard Fendrich are expected.

She plays eleven concerts, among others with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Camerata Salzburg, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, the Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman and the German cellist Jan Vogler.

New stages at Gut Emkendorf and in Gottorf

The drummer Martin Grubinger is celebrating his 20th SHMF anniversary this summer.

With his Percussive Planet Ensemble he will perform at the music festival at Gut Emkendorf on July 26th.

There the festival is building a covered stage for a large orchestra, and a chamber music stage will be at Gottorf Castle in Schleswig.

The composer retrospective at the 36th Festival is dedicated to Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828).

There are 50 concerts, among others by Daniel Hope, Sabine Meyer, Benjamin Appl, Christian Gerhaher and Ivo Pogorelich.

Austrian ensembles also show how Schubert's music can be interpreted in a modern way.

Guests will be The Earlkings as well as the Viennese ensembles Musicabanda Franui and the Stottern.

Independent of Schubert, guests from Austria will include the Austropop stars Wolfgang Ambros and Rainhard Fendrich.

Daniel Hope dedicates the Lübeck Music Festival from July 8th to 11th to Schubert, his guests include the pianist Jacques Ammon, the string quartet Quatuor Arod and the French singer Noemi Waysfeldt.

The festival has a budget of around ten million euros this year, of which the state of Schleswig-Holstein is contributing a good 1.2 million.

Advance sales for the SHMF 2021 have started, initially only small ticket contingents are available under pandemic conditions.

Director Kuhnt therefore recommends that the public keep an eye on the SHMF's homepage.

The offer is regularly updated there.
