Authorities announced the suicide of John Giedert, a former US Olympic gymnastics team coach who had ties to the team’s doctor, Larry Nassar, who was involved in sexual scandals, after he was charged earlier today, Thursday, with charges of human trafficking and sexual assault.

"My office has been notified of the discovery of the body of John Gedert this afternoon after his suicide," said Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

"It is a tragic ending to a sad story for all parties involved," she added.

Nassar, who was the doctor of the American gymnastics team, was sentenced in early 2018 to about 175 years in prison, due to his sexual harassment of several players and his conviction on charges of sexual assault of female athletes and patients for decades, and the verdict came after hearing the testimonies of 160 of his victims.
