Potsdam (dpa / sa) - The order situation in the construction industry in Saxony-Anhalt deteriorated in the past year.

The order volume in 2020 fell by eleven percent to 2.5 billion euros compared to the previous year, the Construction Industry Association said on Thursday.

In particular, the commercial (minus 23.7 percent) and residential construction (minus 22.1 percent) areas recorded a significant decline in orders.

Both segments brought it together to an order volume of around 1.4 billion euros.

In public construction there was an increase in orders of eleven percent in 2020 compared to the previous year.

The order volume rose to 1.1 billion euros.

The association estimates the corona-related decline in orders in 2020 to a value of 250 million euros, said Robert Momberg, Managing Director of the East Construction Industry Association.

The collapse in demand is therefore primarily due to the consequences of the pandemic.

According to the association, the number of employees in the construction industry remained largely constant.

As in 2019, around 17,200 people were employed in the main construction trade in Saxony-Anhalt.
