Aschheim / Potsdam (dpa) - The streaming portal TVnow wants to show a “documentary thriller” about the financial scandal at Wirecard from the end of March.

“The Big Fake - The Wirecard Story” is supposed to be a mixture of documentation with partly exclusive interviews and a thriller, as the production company Ufa Fiction announced on Thursday in Potsdam.

Christoph Maria Herbst ("Stromberg") should be seen in the role of Wirecard boss Markus Braun.

Braun's partner, Jan Marsalek, who is currently in hiding, plays Franz Hartwig (“Charité”).

"It's about a double approach," said producer Nico Hofmann according to the announcement.

"As a psychogram of a heated spiral of insanity and pressure to succeed, of egoism and money-driven craving for validity, on the other hand, the research into the Wirecard system - from the world's stock markets to domestic politics."

The Wirecard story will be available from March 31st and will be “part of the TVnow True Crime Offensive”.

Wirecard from Aschheim near Munich was considered an up-and-coming fintech company for years and has even moved up to the Dax in the meantime.

However, according to investigations by the Munich public prosecutor's office, Wirecard has shown fake profits in the billions since 2015, without the supervisory authorities and auditors noticing anything.

There were also allegations of money laundering in this context.

Wirecard has now filed for bankruptcy.
