Isabel Brilhante Pedrosa has 72 hours to leave Venezuelan territory.

This is not a first.

In June last year, the Venezuelan government had already announced the expulsion of the ambassador of the European Union, before changing his mind when the deadline expired.

At the time, it was a response to a new round of sanctions adopted by Brussels.

Same scenario on Wednesday, two days after the adoption of targeted measures against 19 Venezuelan officials: deputies, a governor or three officials of the National Electoral Council responsible for organizing the legislative elections in December, boycotted by the opposition.

A vote largely won by the party of Nicolas Maduro and his allies.

They are now 55 to be banned from traveling in the EU and whose assets are frozen.

The Venezuelan government evokes "

one more aggression

 " against its people.

In a press release, the Minister of Foreign Affairs considers these sanctions "

arbitrary

".

According to him, they mark the "

frustration of a group of member states of the European Union

" which fail to obtain "

regime change

 " in Venezuela.

Caracas calls on Brussels to change its attitude to establish "

new relations of mutual respect

 ".
