As tradition dictates, the American president devoted his first international meeting to his closest neighbor, Canada.

After four years of strained relations with the Trump administration, Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister has resumed dialogue with his American counterpart.

On the menu of this conference, virtual because of the pandemic, a lot of climate, the economy and a lot of good words.

From the start of the meeting, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau set the tone by confiding that he had missed American leadership.

For his part, his American counterpart Joe Bidden affirmed that the United States has no closer friend than Canada.

These foundations laid, the leaders devoted part of the discussion to climate change.

As of April, the American president plans to hold a bilateral summit with Canada on this subject.

Common reduction targets, particularly in the transport sector, could be put in place, in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Another possible collaboration is the strengthening of NORAD.

This American-Canadian organization has aimed to protect North American airspace since the 1950s, but it has lost much of its luster for several years.

Finally, Joe Biden also assured Justin Trudeau of his support to free the two Canadians Michael Kovrig, and Michael Spavor detained in China for more than two years.
