Bremen (dpa) - The transport ministers of the federal states want to hold a special meeting on Friday to deal with the situation of local transport companies that have to compensate for billions in losses due to the corona.

The topic of the video switch is an update of the rescue package for local public transport, said Bremen, the chairman of the Transport Ministers' Conference (VMK) on Wednesday.

The federal and state governments stepped in with an additional five billion euros last year to compensate for the losses suffered by companies.

Around 1.5 billion of these are still left.

For 2021, the Association of German Transport Companies expects a loss of 3.5 billion euros due to the drastic decrease in passenger numbers.
