Schwerin / Rostock (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Interior Minister Torsten Renz (CDU) has again emphasized the need to decisively oppose right-wing violence on the occasion of the death of Mehmet Turgut.

The young Kurd was murdered on February 25, 2004 in Rostock by the right-wing extremist terrorist group NSU while he was working at a kebab shop.

«Politicians, security authorities, the judiciary and civil society are obliged to do everything to prevent such terrible crimes from happening again.

We have to look, we have to intervene and we have to take action, ”said Renz in a message that was distributed on Wednesday.

The series of murders by the “National Socialist Underground” (NSU) was only revealed in November 2011.

Eight small entrepreneurs of Turkish origin and one of Greek origin, as well as a policewoman, fell victim to the criminal activities of right-wing extremists, including Turgut.

The terrible acts of the NSU would have shown the danger of this scene.

But in view of the long unsuccessful investigations, confidence in the state's security authorities has been severely shaken, Renz admitted.

Politicians reacted with reforms in the police, the protection of the constitution and the judiciary.

Parliaments in the federal and state levels also dealt with the processing of the acts and the obvious investigative mishaps.

The NSU committee of inquiry in the Schwerin state parliament, which was set up late, has not yet completed its work.

Criticism had been raised several times that the committee had not been provided with the files requested.
