Frankfurt / Berlin (dpa) - The Lufthansa Group is campaigning for understanding for its tough course against its competitor Condor.

The holiday airline's competition complaint to the Federal Cartel Office had "no justification," said board member Michael Niggemann in the "Lufthansa Political Letter" published in Berlin on Wednesday.

One could not accuse Lufthansa of competing with Condor routes, since there are no route monopolies in the competition.

Lufthansa wants to get more involved in the tourism business, which is expected to recover more quickly after the Corona crisis than business travel.

It's about securing your own jobs.

Niggemann also defended the termination of the long-term cooperation agreement on feeder flights for the former subsidiary on June 1.

"Freedom of contract applies," said the board member responsible for personnel and law.

Condor is not entitled to "special conditions" for feeder flights and can now book these with Lufthansa on the same terms as many other competitors.

Niggemann recommended to the much smaller airline: "As an alternative, Condor can organize its own feeder flights or use the train as a feeder to Frankfurt Airport, which is central to them."

Condor has also filed a lawsuit with the General Court of the European Union to review the conditions for the state aid to Lufthansa of nine billion euros.

Niggemann pointed out that Condor itself was saved by the state and is financed through a long-term loan from KfW Bank.

He said: “The issue of government support must not influence commercial decisions by companies.

This applies equally to us and to Condor.

Condor, too, should simply face the competition and thus provide proof of its own future viability. "
