Leipzig (dpa) - The high "Ilonka" caused top values in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia on Wednesday.

In Leipzig, the hitherto highest temperature was exceeded for February, as meteorologist Thomas Hain from the German Weather Service (DWD) said in Leipzig.

At the airport, 19 degrees were measured in the afternoon and 19.8 at the Holzhausen station.

The previous highs came from February 24, 1990 with 18.6 degrees and from February 21, 1998 with 18.7 degrees.

In Pabstorf in Saxony-Anhalt, even 20.1 degrees were measured, said Hain.

That was more than the previous peak value of February 27, 2019. At that time, the thermometer showed 19.0 degrees.

In Thuringia, Jena was the front runner with 20.1 degrees.

But that is not a record, said Hain.

On February 26, 1990, even 23.1 degrees were measured in Jena.

All values were still subject to change.

The maximum values are always fixed at 7 p.m., said Hain.

Thursday will also be warm again, according to the DWD.

On Friday, however, a cold front will pull through and ensure cooler weather again.

On Saturday, the maximum values should be between 5 and 8 degrees, and the 10-degree mark will not be reached on Sunday either.
