Kiel (dpa / lno) - In addition to people with previous illnesses and from the medical field, primary school teachers, daycare educators and staff from the facilities in the north will receive the vaccine from Astrazeneca in March.

Health Minister Heiner Garg (FDP) told NDR 1 Welle Nord on Wednesday that the so-called priority group two could probably start at the beginning of the month.

Employees in daycare centers and schools would not be written to, but would have to register for appointments via the state's internet portal after activation.

This affects people under 65 who can be vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vector vaccine.

All Schleswig-Holstein residents aged 80 and over should receive a vaccination offer by the end of February.

The final group of 77,600 people will receive a letter later this week, Garg said.

How quickly these vaccinations were given depends on the actual deliveries from the vaccine manufacturers Biontech and Moderna.

People over 80 remain a priority for these vaccines, according to the ministry.

"I hope that most of the people who have already made an appointment through this invitation system will be vaccinated in March and in April at the latest," said Garg.

That is how long this will probably take due to the availability of the vaccines alone.

With a view to possible further delivery bottlenecks at corona vaccine manufacturers, Garg said, "Your heart slips in your pants, you get an inner tantrum, but that doesn't change anything".

He will discuss this with Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) in the coming week at the consultations between the health ministers.
