Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In North Rhine-Westphalia, 85,000 corona vaccinations per day are to be made possible from March.

The NRW Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that an estimated 70,000 vaccinations could be given every day.

Vaccinations are given in the 53 vaccination centers and by mobile teams.

The hospital staff vaccinate themselves.

The ministry is currently planning to expand the existing vaccination centers and set up additional vaccination centers and specialized practices.

It is also being explored when the general practitioners' practices in the area could be integrated into the vaccination process.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, the start of vaccinations for teachers and daycare staff is also to begin in the first half of March.

Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) announced this.

However, there is a dispute about early vaccination.

The police fear that the vaccination sequence will now slip backwards.

The federal and state health ministers agreed on Monday to upgrade teachers at elementary and special needs schools and kindergarten teachers from group three to group two in the sequence of vaccinations.

Group two also includes many chronically ill people and people over 70 as well as police officers.

According to the ministry, the specific vaccination sequence for all groups of people within priority group two has not yet been determined.

Vaccinations of people in the second group have already started.

As of this week, doctors and other staff with regular patient contact can receive the Astrazeneca vaccine.

This also includes staff from the blood and plasma donation services and in corona test centers.

Before that, however, the vaccinations of the clinic staff, who are exposed to a “very high” risk, for example in intensive care units and in emergency rooms, must be completed.
