24 February 2021 The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Etneo Observatory of Catania is monitoring Mount Etna which has resumed intense Strombolian activity since 16 February.

A spectacular eruption is underway in the volcano: lava fountains exceed 400 meters in height.

The eruption is in progress from two open vents inside the south-east crater of Etna, with the emission of lava ash.

A flow heads towards the desert Valle del Bove.

The paroxysmal phenomenon is the sixth since last February 16th.

The average amplitude of the volcanic tremor shows high values with an increasing tendency.

The source is in the area of the South-East crater at a depth of about 2,700 meters above sea level.

The infrasonic activity is also quite sustained both in the rate of occurrence and in the energy of the events and is located in the South-East crater.

A weak ash emission persists.

The phase of increasing the amplitude of the volcanic tremor also continues, showing medium-high values.

In the meantime, the ash of Etna has traveled many kilometers.

In Palermo balconies, cars, entrances to buildings have a layer of black dust and there are many people who report ashes in practice, throughout the city.

Ash also reported on Isola delle Femmine.

According to experts, the phenomenon is possible due to air currents.
