Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Corona warning apps, increased video consultation hours for doctors and therapists: the corona pandemic has given the healthcare system a digital boost.

Digital solutions such as treatment on the screen reduce the risk of infection for doctors and staff, which is an advantage of telemedicine, says Eckhard Nagel, Managing Director of the Institute for Medical Management and Health Sciences at the University of Bayreuth.

At the 16th Brandenburg State Conference on “Digitization in Health Care” organized by AOK Nordost and the state government on Wednesday (digital), Nagel wants to report on the consequences of the corona pandemic for digitization in this area.

The use of digital functions could increase people's trust in such offers.

But Nagel also sees disadvantages: For example, digitization could exclude socially disadvantaged patients from care.

For example, only those who also have a smartphone could use the corona warning app.

Video treatments could complement, but not replace, treatments in direct contact between doctor or therapist and patient.

Problems with the Internet connection sometimes disrupted the conversation.

From the point of view of the AOK, medical practices and hospitals would have the chance to become more digital with the newly introduced “apps on prescription” and electronic patient files.
