Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, 439 new corona infections were reported within 24 hours.

The seven-day incidence, i.e. the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week, was 89.12 on Wednesday, said the Ministry of Social Affairs in Magdeburg.

The value has been around the 90 mark for a week.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, 21 deaths related to the virus were also reported.

So a total of 2,387 people have died in the country in connection with the virus.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, Saxony-Anhalt, together with the neighboring state of Thuringia, continues to be one of the regions with the highest infection rate nationwide.

The Robert Koch Institute gave the national average on Tuesday at 59.3.

A total of 59 635 corona cases have been recorded in Saxony-Anhalt since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 95 intensive care and ventilation beds are occupied with Covid-19 patients;

60 of these patients are artificially ventilated.

Since the vaccination started, 86,635 people across the country have received the first injection, and 48,895 also the second.

According to the ministry, there were 2443 first vaccinations on Tuesday.

The rate for first vaccinations is around 3.9 percent across the country, and that for second vaccinations is 2.23 percent.
