The wife of Mexican drug lord "El Chapo" was arrested Monday at Washington International Airport.

Emma Coronel Aispuro is accused, among other things, of helping her husband run his drug empire.

She is due to appear this Tuesday before a federal judge.

It had been two years since the US federal police, the FBI, investigated the former beauty queen.

During her husband's trial in 2019, evidence emerged showing her involvement in the vast drug trafficking of her husband's Mexican cartel, the Sinalao.

In particular, she transferred messages to him in order to organize the transport by boat of cocaine and other illegal substances.

Emma Coronel Aispuro, who married Joquim Guzman, alias "El Chapo", at the age of 17, is also accused of helping her husband

escape from a Mexican prison

in 2015 by dramatically.
