Lübeck (dpa / lno) - Third division soccer team VfB Lübeck has temporarily suspended midfielder Florian Riedel.

As the club announced on Tuesday, the 30-year-old will not take part in training and games for a week.

To do this, he is supposed to train for another week with the reservists before he gets the chance to “recommend himself again for missions”.

He also received a fine, has been removed from his position as deputy captain and is no longer part of the team council.

In a television interview, Riedel had criticized sporting director Rocco Leeser, who had previously made the team of the bottom of the table responsible.

"That didn't go down well with the team," Riedel said and complained: "I don't think it's okay to question the character of the team."

VfB board spokesman Thomas Schikorra described the Riedel statements as “exclusively destructive”.

"They give the impression that our team is above or next to the club, and they are also a provocation towards those responsible and our fans," said Schikorra.

Riedel, who will miss the games against Halleschen FC, FC Hansa Rostock and Viktoria Köln due to the club's internal suspension, has accepted the penalty and apologized for his remarks: “I was interviewed for another construction site for the club already difficult situation taken care of.

That was not my intention.

In retrospect, I should only have let actions speak instead of words. "
