Oberstdorf (dpa) - For World Cup record winner Gregor Schlierenzauer, the ski jumping winter ended prematurely due to a knee injury.
The 31-year-old Austrian tore his left cruciate ligament, as the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) confirmed on Tuesday.
Schlierenzauer's downtime is at least six weeks, then the competition season is over.
The winner of 53 World Cup competitions would not have been nominated for the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf anyway.
“Somehow the worm stays inside.
The season, which started slowly with Covid and didn't want to get going, ends for me with a partial rupture of the anterior left cruciate ligament ”, Schlierenzauer wrote on his blog.
The jumper dominated the scene at a young age, but has not won an individual competition since December 2014.
