Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, people in Saxony-Anhalt have taken tens of thousands of video consultation hours with doctors and psychotherapists.

According to the State Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in 2020, a total of 25,000 video consultation hours were billed.

In the meantime, 629 doctors and psychotherapists would have the appropriate authorization.

The numbers point to a massive increase compared to 2019, when just 16 doctors and therapists offered a video consultation.

When asked, the State Medical Association stated that they would like more support in the changeover: The government could certainly better support the medical profession in implementing the online consultation with regard to hardware, software and data protection.

A faster expansion of the broadband connection in rural areas would also be helpful, so that online consultation hours can also be offered there if necessary.

When asked, Andreas Pinkert, press officer at the Ministry of Health, confirms that there are no corresponding support programs on the part of the Ministry.

The development towards online consultation is part of a nationwide trend.

According to figures from the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), around 1.4 million video consultation hours were billed across Germany in the first half of 2020 - compared to only 3000 in 2019. Personal and direct doctor-patient contact is and will always be the gold standard, the KBV announced .
