Hear more about the accident-prone railway and why it did not receive any barriers in the clip above.

It was in the afternoon of 10 February that a passenger train collided with a truck at the unguarded railway crossing in Salekärr outside Uddevalla.

Both people who traveled in the truck died after the accident.

The material damage at the site after the collision is so great that the Swedish Transport Administration estimates that it will take a month before the railway can be used again.

Third incident

But the risks at the accident site are not unknown to the Swedish Transport Administration.

This was the third incident at the scene.

The truck's owner, who runs a traffic school nearby, told SVT Nyheter Väst that he wanted to see major safety measures as early as 1999.

Many unprotected intersections

The Swedish Transport Administration admits that the site, seen in the rearview mirror, should perhaps have been given greater safety earlier.

- That's how you can reason.

The problem is that we have so many, says Bengt Rydhed, acting regional director at the Swedish Transport Administration West.

According to him, there are 3,500 unprotected intersections in the country.
